Keep Up the Good Work!

My Final Project for my Visual Media class this semester was to take an existing advertising campaign, and create an advertisement that would fit in the campaign. We had to include the original ad, reverse engineer said ad, the new ad, and the similarities of the new ad.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints does initiatives at Christmas and Easter encouraging it’s members to share the message of Jesus Christ throughout the world. It is wonderful to participate in these initiatives and I wanted to create an image that would fit right in. I choose to follow the style of the first initiative: He is The Gift.

Pretty awesome right? The Church puts a lot of effort into these.

As you can see the layout is simple, yet powerful. It utilizes white text that stands out against the earth background. The repetition of the message helps it to stick with you. And ultimately, Jesus Christ is the center of this image.

The all capitalized heading with the serif font give a powerful feel to the title. The main though is stated with clarity and boldness. The serif feel of the text gives it an inviting feel, the invitation is stated clearly there.

I love the fact that this is a still shot from a video. The actors really bring emotion to this scene as they stare lovingly at then Savior. Their looks draw our attention to Him, and then we are able to follow the text to the bottom.

What I put together is similar to the original, yet not an exact copy. I took from the well known scripture John 3:16 the phrase “For God so loved the world”. The capital bold, serif font again powerfully states the message of God’s love, while the serif text kindly invites the viewer to learn more.

The text aligns the same way, in the center underneath the Savior allowing the focus to be on Him and then the focus can go down the image. The color scheme matches of earth colors on the background, with white text and a red box  at the bottom.

I honestly loves putting this project together. One of the requirements was that we had to use InDesign and then either Photoshop or Illustrator. I used Illustrator to make the new advertisement while putting the slide show together in InDesign. I saved this for the conclusion because I felt that this is a good conclusion to the class. I was able to take all that I have learned about these Adobe products and make a complete project. This project has taught me how to keep up the good work!
